On the Isle of Wight, most deliveries are being made by diesel and petrol vans which contribute negatively to air quality, CO2 emissions, noise and road congestion.
With support from Isle of Wight Council we are trialling the introduction of alternative, sustainable delivery modes to divert diesel/petrol van mileage towards the environmentally-friendly solution of electric cargo bikes.
What’s on offer?
1 – Delivery service
Starting on 2nd August, a pilot delivery service will be available in West Cowes/Gurnard/Northwood. In addition to delivering on behalf of Cowes-based businesses, “last mile” deliveries from elsewhere on the Isle of Wight will be received at a micro-hub in Cowes and then distributed by e-cargo bike.
In order to make it as risk-free as possible for a wide range of businesses and organisations to try delivery via e-cargo bikes, deliveries will be undertaken free of charge for the period of the trial. If you deliver in this area (or would like to) and would like to find out more please fill in the form below or get in touch.
2 – Demonstration sessions
We will be running a series of demonstration sessions across the Island to enable people to see and try out e-cargo bikes and generally find out more about them. Sessions are aimed at local businesses and organisations. Dates and locations will be posted on our website and advertised via social media. If you’d like to participate or want to arrange a demo for your organisation, please fill in the form below or get in touch.
3 – E-cargo bike loans
Organisations that currently deliver, or would like to do so, have the opportunity to borrow a bike to see if it is suitable for their delivery needs. Bikes will need to be ridden by member(s) of staff from the business and appropriate training will be given prior to the loan. The offer is open to organisations across the Island and will be subject to the availability of bikes and appropriate insurance being held by the loanee. If you’d like to find out about loans, please fill in the form below or get in touch.
